your ghost is everywhere
it lingers in the breath
over every moment
quietly tempting me
but always out of reach

a cat’s paws on the front porch
a breeze in the tall grass

a flapping window screen 
looking out over 
what might have been

i thought surely it would come to rest
and finally drift and fade 
leaving this for some better place
